Program Purpose:
To prepare students to become certified medical assistants. Medical assistants’ roles require attention to detail, organization skills, and time management skills. The duties will vary depending on the healthcare setting. Medical assistants may be asked to complete administrative and clinical duties in the care of patients, such as assessing and recording patients’ vital signs, medical histories, preparing patients for physical examinations, performing venipunctures, administering medications, scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, and helping with billing and coding. Medical assistants are employed in various healthcare settings, including physicians’ offices, clinics, and hospitals, under the supervision of a physician or other healthcare providers.

65 credit hours
Admission Requirements:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and meet all admission requirements of the College.
Prior to applying for admission, applicants must complete all prerequisite(*) courses with a grade of C or better and the Health Education Systems, Inc. Admission Assessment (HESI A2).
Students are admitted using a point system; students with the highest number of points will be admitted. These students will receive a preliminary acceptance letter into the program by official TSC email and must complete all admission requirements for finalized admission.
A minimum score of 75% on each subtest of the HESI A2 is required to be considered for admission. The subtests that are considered for admission are: reading, vocabulary, grammar, and math.
Program Application:
This program accepts students each fall and spring semester. This is a limited-access program; applicants are accepted based on the admission requirements point system described above. Application procedures must be completed by the published deadline. Applicants must submit a TSC Healthcare Program application by the published application deadline to be officially admitted into the A.S. degree program.
