SLS2261 Dynamics of Student Leadership Development3 credit hour(s) Prerequisite(s): documented exemption, appropriate placement test scores, or completion of developmental education reading and writing. A study of the dynamics of leadership within groups and organizations with emphasis on the development of leadership skills and personal development. May include such topics as: analysis of leadership qualities and styles, group problem solving, formal organization procedures, and personal and group goal setting. Statement of goals: 1. to gain insight into the personal qualities of each of the students which contribute to personal leadership skills. 2. to develop the ability to recognize leadership styles which impart group and organization behavior 3. to participate in group activities to better understand & utilize group dynamics in problem solving, conflict resolution, self-affirmation, and goal setting and achievement. 4. to learn the formal procedures for group and organized structure such as agenda planning, time management, and parliamentary procedure. 5. to establish a basis for constructive critical analysis of group and organizational accomplishments. Lecture: 30 hours. Lab: 30 hours.
