CHM1045 General Chemistry I3 credit hour(s) Prerequisite(s): a grade of C or better in MAC1105 College Algebra ; documented exemption, appropriate placement test scores, or completion of developmental education reading and writing. Corequisite(s): CHM1045L . This course is designed for students pursuing careers in the sciences or who need a more rigorous presentation of chemical concepts than is offered in an introductory course. Students will engage in problem solving and critical thinking while applying chemical concepts. Topics will include the principles of chemistry including atomic theory, electronic and molecular structure, measurement, stoichiometry, bonding, periodicity, thermochemistry, nomenclature, solutions, and the properties of gases. Lecture: 3 hours. Recitation: 1 hour. Additional fee. Graphing calculator recommended; check with instructor for appropriate one.
