Emergency Medical Technician Applied Technology Diploma (B312)

Program Purpose:
To prepare students for the State of Florida’s Examination for Emergency Medical Technician and/or the National Registry EMT (NREMT) and for employment as certified emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who are equipped to work as part of an emergency medical team. This program also provides the first level of educational preparation for students seeking to become registered paramedics.

This program is approved by the State of Florida Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.

Program Length:
12 credit hours

Admission Requirements:
Applicant must be at least 18 years of age and meet all admission requirements of the College.

Applicant must be college-ready in English and Reading, which means the applicant does not need developmental education courses in English and reading. The applicant must be eligible for at least Level 2 developmental math. This requirement may be satisfied by one or more of the following options:

Applicant must have also completed the following:

  • Approved first responder course (EMS1059C )

Applicant must hold current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross CPR for the Healthcare Provider and Professional Rescuer certification. (One of these two hands-on courses is required; online courses are not acceptable.)

At a scheduled time, applicant will have to demonstrate an ability to lift 125 pounds, successfully complete a course readiness test and complete an interview. All students participating in this program must pass all clinical affiliates’ requirements for criminal background checks, drug screenings and health/immunizations before starting classes.

This is a limited-access program with a limited number of seats per class.
