SYG2010 Contemporary Social Problems3 credit hour(s) | Fall | Spring | Summer Prerequisite(s): documented exemption, appropriate placement test scores, or completion of developmental education reading and writing. This course studies how some social situations and conditions come to be defined as social problems and analyzes their causes and possible solutions, with emphasis on contemporary social problems in the United States. It examines the roles that inequalities of power and competing political perspectives play in defining and solving social problems. Lecture: 3 hours. Substantial writing component. Fulfills state writing requirement.
